We run ESOL courses at Entry 1, Entry 2 and Entry
3 levels. If interested please complete an application form. We currently have a small number of places in an Entry 1 class.
ESOL Entry 1 is suitable for those with very little English who may have recently
arrived in the UK or who have lived here for some time and want to improve
their English. This course is 3 hours a week.
ESOL Entry 2 is suitable for those with some or a little English who may have
recently arrived in the UK or who have lived here for some time and want to
improve their English. This course is 4 hours a week.
ESOL Entry 3 is for learners who have completed Entry 2 and are often in employment or who are planning
to work in this country. Learners will have some basic English, including some
reading and writing. This course is 4 hours a week.
All ESOL courses also require learners to do 2 hours homework each week. The
courses will continue into the spring term. We do an assessment of each learner
to decide which course is the most suitable.
Citizenship covers the material necessary
to take the Life in the UK test for people wanting to become British citizens.
Learners need ESOL at Entry 2 level at least. (Please note that this is not
a ‘combined’ ESOL
and Citizenship course). The course will run again in January 2011.
IT for Fun is a one term introductory course for learners who have no computer
experience. This will run again in September 2010.
IT and Multi
Media is a one term course involving graphics, photos and video,
and their use with IT. This course will run again in 2010-11
ECDL Level 1 is three basic modules about using a computer. The work is done on Thursday and Friday mornings in class, 10am to 12 midday at Training Link, or can be done on line using your own computer. The course is run by our IT co-ordinator, Nelly Pineda. You do the mocks and exams at Training Link. This course is free for Camden residents who are looking for work.
ECDL is a computer course aimed at people
using IT at work. It covers all the main Microsoft programmes. Learning is
done online, with support available. The fee for this course is £180
(some employers may help).
Fees
Our courses (except full ECDL) are free to people living in Camden who are retired, unemployed
or on benefits. People who live in Camden or elsewhere and are working pay £20
a year, and people from outside the borough who are not working pay £15
a year. This covers subsidised courses, not any fee paying ones we run.
Drop In
We have a weekly drop in on Tuesdays from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, which all students can
use.
Employment and volunteering advice
We offer this free to all Camden residents who want it, in one to one private sessions. This is provided by Camden Working IAG.
