Intercultural Counselling Skills
This programme is aimed at people who are working within the health and social care sector and is offered in a short and a long programme. The complete programme covers five units over an academic year. The short programmes are approximately 30 hours.
Aims:
To provide a learning environment for people who are interested in working within the Voluntary, Public and Health Sector.
To enable participants to focus on their own skills and knowledge and to identify their style of learning and ways in which learning may be progressively enhanced.
To use counselling as a tool to initiate understanding and gain an awareness of the issues arising from living in a multi ethnic society.
To help participants explore what factors may prevent their own learning and to use counselling techniques to highlight blocks to learning and help clear them.
Participants will learn counselling skills, which are appropriate within a multi-racial context and aim to support access to further professional training.
At the end of the training participants can be awarded credits in accordance with the Open College Network (OCN) guidelines. This will be based on attendance a short essay and the upkeep of a learning Journal.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL I RECEIVE?
Open College Network (OCN) Certification up to 6 credits at Level 3.
No formal qualifications necessary. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Unemployed participants are encouraged to find a voluntary placement (paid or unpaid) where they can practice the skills learnt.Selection will be by individual interview.
There is 10% discount for the complete programme.
